Group Descriptions
- Divorce Recovery – A support group for individuals suffering through the effects of divorce involving substance abuse.(*)
- Dual Diagnosis Group – A support group only for individuals diagnosed with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse/ dependence. (!)
- Intensive Outpatient Group Therapy (IOP) – This is an intensive support, psycho-educational, and process oriented group only for individuals diagnosed as appropriate for Level II Intensive Outpatient Treatment. This is an estimated eight week program.(!)
- Parenting in Recovery – A support group that helps parents coping with sobriety effectively parent their child.(*)
- Spirituality (Available as individual sessions or as group counseling) – A therapy that discusses the effects of addiction through the lens of spirituality to help find peace and serenity.(*)
- Tai Chi – This is a group designed to use the working meditation of Tai Chi to help clients learn the power of staying present and to help them manage cravings. (*)
- Relationships in Recovery – Equivalent to a couple’s therapy group, this group is for singles and couples who are struggling in their relationships with others because of substance abuse. (*^)
- Substance Abuse (S/A) – This is a psycho-educational group teaching sobriety coping skills, relapse prevention skills, the effects of substance use on the body and the family, and other issues pertinent to substance abuse/ dependency issues. (*^)
- GED- A group designed to prepare clients to take the GED test. Unfortunately, A New Awakening is not currently a certified site to actually take the GED test. (*)
- Anger Management for Women – This group teaches anger management skills and also discusses the effects of domestic violence on women. This group is for female domestic violence offenders only. (!)
- Yoga for Recovery – This is a standard yoga class taught by a certified yoga instructor to focus on helping the body recover from substance abuse. This class is part of the holistic healing approach. (*)

- Men’s Group – This group focuses on relapse prevention and issues of substance abuse from a male perspective (Men only) (*^)
- Relapse Prevention (R/P) – This group is very much like the Substance Abuse group covering very similar issues. (*^)
- Post Traumatic Stress – This group is only for individuals suffering from Post Traumatic Stress symptoms or trauma (must have an assessment completed by a Mental Health Counselor). Topics include learning daily coping skills to manage symptoms of trauma. (!)
- Anger Management – This is a group dedicated to clients wishing to learn coping skills to manage their anger. This group is led by Dr. Carling, a licensed acupuncturist, whom uses holistic techniques to teach emotional literacy. (*)
- IOP with Family Group – This group allows the IOP clients to bring their family members to treatment incorporating a family systems approach to their treatment. The group attends with the Family Group for the first hour and then continues as IOP only thereafter.(!)
- Family Group – This group is open to substance abusers and members of their families. The focus is on family systems and the affects of substance abuse on the family. (*^)
- Women’s Group - This group focuses on relapse prevention and issues of substance abuse from a female perspective. Topics include relationships, managing feelings, and receiving support from other women (Women only). (*^)
- Stress Management – This group is also led by Dr. Carling, teaching holistic methods to manage stress such as deep breathing, spirituality, self-care, and time management techniques.(*)
- Domestic Violence/ Substance Abuse (DV/SA) – This group addresses issues of domestic violence offenders such as anger management, conflict resolution, emotional management, and relapse prevention skills. This group is only for male domestic violence offenders. (!)
- Social Recovery – This is a social group for anyone looking for new sober friends or looking for sober activities to engage in with the community. (*^)
- Parent/Family Support – This is a support group for spouses, family members, and friends suffering due to their involvement in the life of an addict. (*^)
- Holistic Healing Led by Dr. Carling, clients learn to approach substance abuse in a holistic way. Clients will learn about nutrition, stress management, spirituality, and other practices that heal the entire addict (*)
- R/P in Spanish – (Same as Above only taught by a bi-lingual counselor)(*^)
