At A New Awakening 10 staff are completing their certification along with certifying for Motivational Interviewing as well. CRA is utilized in the following manner for Level One Treatment:
Community Reinforcement Approach (CRA) is a Substance Abuse program. CRA is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral intervention for the treatment of substance abuse problems. CRA seeks to treat substance abuse problems through focusing on environmental contingencies that impact and influence the client's behavior. Developed in accordance with the belief that these environmental contingencies play a crucial role in an individual's addictive behavior and recovery, CRA utilizes familial, social, recreational, and occupational events to support the individual in changing his or her drinking/using behaviors and in creating a successful sobriety. These topics are interwoven with client choice to increase client efficacy as well as targeting multi layers of issues. The goal is to rearrange multiple aspects of an individual's life so that a clean and sober lifestyle is more rewarding than one that is dominated by alcohol and/or drugs. Homework is utilized during each educational session and is assigned in collaboration with the client after each session and is tailored to address therapeutic needs. Assignments are usually behavioral, such as trying a new activity, and are given within the framework of trying new behavior. Homework assignments are made so the client can be successful in completing them, so they are initially easy tasks to help build self-esteem and self-efficacy.

Motivational Interviewing (MI):
A New Awakening therapists, counselors and direct care staff use principles of motivational interviewing in relating to consumers at all levels in the program. The application of motivational interviewing in this agency is a primary intervention that helps the clinical team in avoiding confrontational styles of treatment. It forms the basis of a treatment approach guided by five principles: (1) express empathy, (2) develop discrepancy, (3) avoiding argumentation, and (4) roll with resistance and (5) support self efficacy.
Family Support: Adolescents and adults both need a close relationship with at least one family member. Identifying and including supportive family participation in the process of treatment is essential to success with this population. This is also an element necessary to sustain through transitions such as movement from one treatment modality to another, transitions in relationships, academic or work situations.
IOP:

The foundation of this service is a therapeutic relationship between the provider and the consumer in a planned format of therapies, which is characterized primarily by a group approach and process and didactic components. Critical components of the program are individual counseling, group counseling, counseling with the family and /or significant others; motivational enhancement and engagement strategies, random alcohol/drug testing services, and strategies for relapse prevention to include community and/or social support systems in treatment and didactic presentations to consumers, families, and significant others.
